Dead Man

1995, D & S: Jim Jarmusch

Jarmusch's latest flick is a meditative, surreal western with very pretty black and white cinematography, a two-hour plus running time, and a very odd sense of humor. It can't decide how absurd it wants to be -- some scenes, like Iggy Pop's cameo, are played for broad, almost slapstick humor; some provoke a slightly queasy, grisly (or is that gristly?) laugh; some are quite serious. I liked it okay, but it wasn't terrific.
